Delhi experienced a welcome change in weather as rain showers swept through various areas. RK Puram, Dhaula Kuan, and Delhi Cantt saw significant downpour, bringing relief from the extreme heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert and predicted rainfall from Friday to Monday.

The IMD had previously forecasted the advancement of the monsoon towards the National Capital Region (NCR), with Delhi expected to witness the onset of the southwest monsoon by June 24. Earlier this week, heavy rainfall led to the diversion of 12 flights at Delhi airport due to adverse weather conditions.

Last year, the monsoon arrived in Delhi on June 25, with the highest single-day precipitation since 1936. However, the season ended with a 19 per cent deficiency in rainfall. Rainfall up to 19 per cent excess or deficient is considered normal, and Delhi received around half of the rainfall recorded in the previous monsoon season.
