Gandhi, 78, who was on a personal visit to the hill town along with her daughter Priyanka Gandhi, had complained of high blood pressure earlier in the day.

In a statement, Medical Superintendent IGMC & Hospital, Shimla said, "Sonia Gandhi visited Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla today for a routine medical check-up. As part of preventive and diagnostic care, few medical tests were conducted under the supervision of a team of specialized doctors at IGMC."

"All necessary protocols were followed, and the visit was smoothly coordinated by the medical team. After routine investigations, she left the hospital," the statement added.

Earlier, Naresh Chauhan, media advisor to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, told PTI, "It was a routine check-up after she complained of high blood pressure. She is going back home now."

Sonia Gandhi arrived in Shimla on Monday and has been staying at Priyanka Gandhi’s residence in Charabra, located on the outskirts of the city. The visit was a personal one, and she had been spending time away from public engagements.
